EDITORIAL: Osama and Obama on global warming
Quote:In his State of the Union address last week, President Obama said there was "overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change." In his most recent message to the world, Osama bin Laden said that climate change "is not an intellectual luxury but an actual fact." It's nice to see these two leaders can agree on something. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant! |

Quote:Evidence is emerging that the data had been rigged all along. Russian analysts noted that British temperature calculations excluded data from 40 percent of Russian territory, much of which showed no increase in temperature in the past 50 years. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also cherry-picked data, cutting Canadian data sources from 600 to 35 and relying on only one monitor for all of Canada above the Arctic Circle. This was done even though Canada operates 1,400 weather stations, 100 of which are in the Arctic. I bet that Obama is completely unaware of this reality. RE: Osama and Obama on GW ...
I happened to see the part of Obama's SOTU address where he mentioned "global warming" and I would like to offer up an observation.
Remember when politicians would phrase it like "the debate is over"? Anyone catch the way Obama put it? I'll paraphrase from memory: "It is my belief that the evidence is overwhelming...but some disagree. We can argue about that...but I think we all can agree that home-grown energy and green jobs are good for America" I sat up in my seat when he said that. It seems to be a clear retreat from "the debate is over" position....albeit a minor one. I saw nothing in his statement that alluded to Cap and Trade either. Who thinks Al Gore was happy with the way he worded it?

Good catch Harpo!
Quote:"...but I think we all can agree that home-grown energy and green jobs are good for America" If he wants HOME GROWN energy, then he should push Congress hard to allow Oil drilling in a number of locations, that would in the long run keep a lot more of OUR oil money here, instead of going to Canada,Mexico,Venezuela and the Middle East. What a boost that would be to the economy and create a lot of NEW jobs automatically. It would help if he also push the Congress hard on the THORIUM reactors for power production. It is cleaner, cheaper and easier to build and maintain than the Uranium class reactors.Plus America has centuries worth of Thorium supply right here. Green Jobs are fine IF they are desired by the private sector. It makes no sense to fight the marketplace order of things to make something available that is not in demand.
