Monckton Debates
Monckton and scientific allies debated non-scientific global warming alarmists at Oxford Union Society recently. A summary of the debate is here (can also locate it by going directly to frontpagemag.com):

Unfortunately there does not appear to be a transcript of the debate.

ajmplanner, this is not a transcription but it is closer to it: http://sppiblog.org/news/oxford-union-de...atastrophe

His histrionic cummerbund moment made me laugh:

Quote:At that point his cummerbund came undone. He held it up to the audience and said, “If I asked this House how long this cummerbund is, you might telephone around all the manufacturers and ask them how many cummerbunds they made, and how long each type of cummerbund was, and put the data into a computer model run by a zitty teenager eating too many doughnuts, and the computer would make an expensive guess. Or you could take a tape-measure and” – glaring at the opposition across the despatch-box – “measure it!”

RE: Monckton Debates
The "consensus" or "majority" or "ruling party" replied in response to "measure it",
unusually, if not exceptionally honestly for them,

"You can if you want, but we have already "fixed" the tape measures you can use."

It became known as TapeGate....

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed
(and hence clamorous to be led to safety)
by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

H. L. Mencken.

The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that
"they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions.
