Gore on the Arctic (again)
Watts Up With That?

2-17-2010

Guest post by Mark Johnson

EXCERPT:

Al Gore trumpets the latest conclusions of Climate Change Advocate David Barber. “Sea ice in Canada’s fragile Arctic is melting more quickly than anyone expected,” says University of Manitoba Prof. David Barber, the lead investigator of the Circumpolar Flaw Lead System study released Friday. Barber is the lead investigator in the largest climate change study done in Canada. Barber said before the expedition, scientists were working under the theory that climate change would happen much more slowly.

RE: Gore on the Arctic (again)
during a lunch time walk on campus, I saw on campus tv that some dr is giving a talk about the shrinking arctic ice and how it will affect climate. If it weren't for such absurd and ridiculous research, these 'drs' would be flipping burgers and asking if that is to stay or to go.

So funny because it has been in a recovery trend for more than 2 years now.

Pop into the talk and ask about the activity of the Gekkel Ridge..
Bone up before hand by putting into a search engine,
Day 17 and then there were vents.

I usually ignore those 'talks' on campus, I don't think I can be in the same room with a bunch of hippie minded people without puking. Smile

And the big Arctic "melt" of 2007 was caused by wind, not high temps.

Err, maybe open to debate that one, wind was certainly a factor,
as I have suggested on many an occasion the Gekkel Ridge may well of been a factor as well,
and a major one.

The ice levels do not seem to drop in strict accordance with the proposed wind factor only, or every time.
I suspect it is a feature / occurance of at least the two factors together.

It helps to have a greater inflow of warm water from the north Atlantic.

At this time the North Pole ice cap coverage by area is once again down statistically because of the persistent blocking pattern this winter has brought up more warm air and water into the Arctic than usual.

As you can see here it is obvious on the Canadian/Greenland side of the Arctic.

No. Not obvious at all. The ice is still slowly increasing. Wonder if anyone has told Al about this:

50 ships, thousands of people, stuck in Baltic Sea ice
