Software change?
Hello Readers,
I have been looking at THIS software for a while. The main selling point it has is the INTEGRATED set up where there is a Portal,User Blogs,Picture Gallery with the editor built in and of course the forum. myBB does not have a good portal of its own and NO user blog at all. For me the USER Blog would be a great feature, since I still want to blog a little and also just post some good news articles.Maybe some members here would like to do some blogging too? Here is a SOFTWARE REVIEW of the current version 7.5 You can do a demo of that version. It is free and easy. The one I am interested in is version 8.0 that is currently under private beta testing. It will be upgraded and the themes will be more up to date in appearance. I have been in communication with Rick Baker who is the UBB LEAD DEVELOPER over at the Adminzone forum. In the link you will see that he has answered my questions about features NOT used in the current version. It looks like they are really updating their software with a lot of new features including the new USER BLOG feature that will be available for version 8.0. But there is a catch. It cost money to use the software for a year or more depending on the license package chosen. Standard is $139 a year. I have up to this time personally absorbed all the cost of myBB (a free software) by paying a server host to run it on the web.But now this new expense would more than double the cost and wondering if guests and members would help with some small donations.IF we went to UBB version 8.0 in a few months from now? SST,
Maybe you could set up a 'tip jar' or a link for donations via PayPal? Only a thought! "Correlation is NOT Causation"

RE: Software change?
SST - Count me in if a contribution is needed.
I'll leave the software choice to you however. Sorry that's a yes to a contribution, but "no answer" to software change. The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken. The hobgoblins have to be imaginary so that "they" can offer their solutions, not THE solutions. |

This current set up except for a possible professional theme does not require any donations. Do you think the USER BLOG would be beneficial to the forum? The poll is still open.
Please make a choice.. I added a new choice for you to consider in the poll. It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. RE: Software change?
Hello,
I will interpret that the lack of votes or comments, means that most members who visit here are not interested in the UBB software. That in itself indicate to me that staying here with myBB is the commonly preferred position. Is that correct? It is our attitude toward free thought and free expression that will determine our fate. RE: Software change?
I for one am happy with things "as is".
My only comment would be can I/we upload powerpoint slide shows yet. ? I would particularly like to add my GHSP pp slide show to my archive. RE: Software change?
I'm OK with what we have as long as it is kept current which is usually a primary security concern.
I'm willing to "go with the flow" on this though. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant! |

RE: Software change?
I'll try and upload the slideshow I am referring to to my archive tonight.
If it does not upload, I'll send you (SST) a copy of the slideshow by email, just so there is no confusion about the file type I am referring to.
